Dearest Mother,
I arrived in Gainesville on Fri. morn. at 7:10 safe and sound.
I planned on writing to you Sat. but I was put on K.P. from 7:00 A.M. till 8:30 P.M. and when
I was through I came to my barracks and took a bath and went to bed because I was pretty tired.
I stayed in Gainesville till 5:30 Fri. afternoon and when I came to camp I found that the Co. was
out on a bivouac and wouldn't be back till 12:00 midnight, and some of the boys that were on
furlough that came back earlier than I did were put on K.P. because they were short of help in the
kitchen, and so I put my stuff in my barracks and left right away for a shower because if I would
have stayed around any longer, they would have put me on K.P. right away, and that is the reason
I didn't write on Fri.
All I did today so far was just lay around my barracks and read the funnies.
Since I've been away it's really got hot out here, and we have to take salt pills now to keep from
getting sick.
Well, I'll close now with love to you, daddy and the kids.
"Jimmy"
P.S.
I'll send part of the money you sent me for my furlough as soon as I get paid.
Well mother, I guess this is all I have to say, so I'll close with love to all.
"Jimmy"
Tell daddy not to worry about me and that I'll be O.K.
